Why choose lead water pipe replacement

If your supply pipe is made of lead, we would advise you consider replacing it. Lead poisoning isn't a hazard that belongs to Victorian times. It is still a very real hazard in the 21st century. If you live in a property built before 1970 it may still be supplied by one or more lead water pipes. These were common before the law changed in 1970 and prohibited the use of lead pipes for this purpose.

Over time scale will appear on the inside of the pipes as they bring water into the home. However it is still possible that some lead particles can pass into the water supply. In these cases the householders can easily drink and cook with water that is contaminated with lead.

Why choose lead water pipe replacement

Lead poisoning is harmful and while drinking from a contaminated supply once or twice isn't likely to have much effect, it is the cumulative effect that builds up over years that is the real concern. In this situation the amount of lead in the blood can go beyond an acceptable level. If the blood does contain lead, the blood supply sends it around the body where it starts to accumulate in organs.

The cumulative effect of lead poisoning also means it can take some time for the body to get rid of the lead that has built up in these cases. Even if the water pipes were immediately changed the body would take time to recover. Some of the symptoms of lead poisoning include tiredness, high blood pressure, vomiting, anaemia and insomnia. There are many other symptoms too which can build up over time.

If your property still has lead water pipes, the team at Southern Pipe Repairs can replace them with modern MDPE poly pipes. These will eradicate any lead deposits from your water supply and also increase the flow of water through the system. Thus you should experience a higher water pressure as well as the peace of mind of knowing you will no longer be at risk from lead poisoning.
